How to check Domain Authority of your Website ?

What is Domain Authority ?

Domain Authority is the authority of your domain/website on the internet. It is the measure of the strength of your website on the web over time. It tells you how good your website will rank in search engines for any query, keywords or content. Domain Authority is simply a metric and nothing else but it is today considered as one of the most important factor in SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Domain Authority is also identified as DA in shorter forms.

Who Gives Domain Authority ?

Domain Authority is a metric founded by Moz Software previously known as SEOmoz. Moz is a company known for creating SEO softwares, marketing analytics tools and providing SEO services to their clients or customers.

How Domain Authority is Calculated ?

Domain Authority is calculated in terms of Numbers ranging from 0 to 100. A website having lower number e.g. 20 has lower Domain Authority and a website having greater number e.g. 60 will have higher Domain Authority, means it will have much higher potential to rank higher in SERPS or Search Engine Rankings for a particular keyword or content. The procedure to calculate Domain Authority is rather complex and is governed by more than 40 factors. It is easier to have Domain Authority in range of 20 -30 but it is very difficult to get a Domain Authority over 60 or so. Only very popular and high traffic sites have Domain Authority over 60. Domain Authority plays an important role in search engine ranking factors.

0 -> Lowest Domain Authority for a Website

100 -> Highest Domain Authority for a Website

How to Increase Domain Authority ?

Well as I said before there are almost 40 odd signals or factors that are used to calculate the domain but there are some most important factors that plays the most important role in affecting the Domain Authority. They are listed below.

Main Factors Influencing Domain Authority (DA)

Domain Age – Domain Age is the age of your domain. It means how long is your domain registered on the internet. An older domain can score easily in the DA metric but it is not the primary factor governing Domain Authority. If your website has weak content and not enough backlinks then domain age cannot fill this gap alone.

Backlinks Profile – If your website has good amount of backlinks from high PR websites then it is good for Domain Authority. Also the amount of dofollow links should be more as they passes the links juice to your website, so try to get maximum backlinks from high authority websites or blogs. The ratio for dofollow to nofollow links should be in the ratio of 80 – 20 percent.

Content – It is also one of the most important factors affecting the Domain Authority. If your website has quality content then its Domain Authority will bound to increase. Also the content should be enough and your website should be regularly updated to earn more DA points.

Domain Authority vs. Page Authority

There is another metric by Moz software called Page Authority. Where Domain Authority is the measure of the strength of whole domain or website, Page Authority (PA) is the measure of the strength of a particular page of the website. Page Authority is used only to assess the quality of a particular page and not the website as whole.

Domain Authority vs. Alexa Rank vs. Page Rank

Well all these 3 metrics are equally important in their own way to identify the quality or popularity of a website. In the past Alexa Rank of a website was the only way to assess the website popularity or its mark on the internet which was then overshadowed by Google’s PageRank, which evaluates the website on the scale of 1 to 10, but in the present situation Domain Authority is much more complete metric and it gives the more accurate data in evaluating a website. It is a stronger metric compared to Alexa and PageRank. So in my view I would rank them as

Domain Authority > PageRank > Alexa Rank

A higher Domain Authority automatically means a good Alexa and PageRank.
