It is now confirmed that the Retina-class displays will be supported by Windows 8. Tablet PC’s based on Windows 8 can have pixel densities of at least 135 DPI. Some higher end Windows 8 tablets models can have pixel densities as high as 291 DPI. A 10.1 inch screen at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 offers pixel density of 291 DPI, which is much higher than the new iPad 3.

A minimum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels is supported by Windows 8 tablets as most of the websites are designed for this resolution. Study conducted by Microsoft also reported that only 1.2% of current Windows 7 users have screens with resolutions smaller than that.
At last we can say that Apple will face some serious competition in the tablet segment in coming days.
